The Klingon C-8 class dreadnought was introduced in 2273 and intended for use on the Lyran/Kzinti border. The C-8 and nearly-identical C-9 classes were designed and put through the prototype stage at the same time. The C-8 was found to be better able to defend itself against missiles and fighters, which eventually made it the standard Klingon dreadnought design. The C-8 class had a crew complement of 600, and featured a capacity of fourteen shuttlecraft, six science labs, eight transporters, and three tractor beam emitters; it was armed with six Type-F missile launchers, six Type-4 disruptor banks, two banks of Type-1 phasers, ten banks of Type-2 phasers, and four banks of Type-3 phasers. The C-8 remained in service until 2285, when it was superseded by the C-8B refit, introduced in 2279. The C-8B refit replaced its Type-F missiles with Type-As, and added a fifth bank of Type-3 phasers, and remained in service until 2298, when it was superseded by the C-8K refit, introduced in 2292. The C-8K replaced its Type-A missiles with Type-Bs, and mounted ten banks of Type-1 phasers, two banks of Type-2 phasers, and five banks of Type-3 phasers.[1]
