Reference Stardate 2/1601 through 2/1612
- RSD 2/16: BioResearch begins plans to exploit the moon of Newlin II for the corboryte it holds.[1]
- RSD 2/16: The colony on Sheridan's World suffers its first setback when an unexpected disease destroys much of the community's crops.[2]
- RSD 2/16-2/23 (2216 through 2223): Star Fleet and commercial starship losses gradually increase in the region of space near Starbase 27. No clear cause is identified.[3]
January
- RSD 2/1601.01 (1 January): The defeat of Jonas Elley in the presidential election of the Mantiev Colonial Association leads to the Chaniviev Alliance States pulling out of the MCA.[4]
- RSD 2/1601.11 (11 January): Officer selections begin for the U.S.S. Yamato NCC-1705 and the U.S.S. Lexington NCC-1709, which are being refit to the Enterprise class. Captain Kris Reardon is offered the command of the Yamato, but turns it down to remain working along the Klingon Neutral Zone. She is given command of the U.S.S. Strider NCC-7141. Carl Curtis is not considered for the command of the Enterprise class ships.[5]
May
- RSD 2/1605: Civil war erupts among the members of the Mantiev Colonial Association.[4]
June
- RSD 2/1606: Incoming Botchok Planetary Congress president Refner Gyron the Sly inaugurates a new policy of quid pro quo neutrality between the three great powers of nearby space. While collecting all the intelligence it can on each of its neighbors, the Orions will trade favorable knowledge and trading-partner status for certain trade concessions. In the following years, this policy wins more trade for worlds in Klingon space, a limited-delivery contract and battle protocol from the Romulans, and a whole slew of small advantages and dispensations from the Federation. The first Human colony planted within Orion space is quietly closed down and ushered out within two months of its illegal and unannounced arrival.[6]
October
- RSD 2/1610.24 (24 October): Final orders for Operation Dixie are transmitted from San Francisco. All preparations in the field are now complete, and these orders constitute a go-ahead.[7]
December
- RSD 2/1612: Commander Ian Vellacora is reinstated into Star Fleet after four years of retirement. Vellacora is not only allowed to return, but is promoted to Captain and assigned to a Gorn diplomatic mission.[3]
- RSD 2/1612: The Reliant class light cruiser U.S.S. Invicta NCC-26246 is commissioned.[8]
