Comet Ajax (SFC)
- RSD 1/9301: Debris from the destroyed Cochise class U.S.S. Ajax NCC-547[1] is found in the form of a comet. This is the first such incident to occur. Captain Peter Sullivan of the Kepler class U.S.S. Brahe NCC-3821,[1] which discovered the debris, reported that the Ajax apparently suffered a catastrophic matter/antimatter explosion, which vaporized the ship. "If you ask me," Sullivan reported, "it had something to do with that new dilithium converter assembly. That's such a critical component in new starship design, and one that should have been tested more, that, well, I'm afraid we haven't seen the end of trouble from this 'miracle' crystal. ... I don't believe there's ever been an artificial comet produced before; I'm only sorry it was such a tragedy that caused this one. In memory of the lost Ajax and its crew, I recommend that this new mini-comet be named after the ship."[2][3]
- RSD 1/9301: Star Fleet Intelligence later learns that the first Axanarian task force enters Federation space at this time.[4]
- RSD 1/9301.04 (4 January): Klingon Admiral epetai-Kazu leads his task force into the Rigel system without warning. The Orion Space Navy does not resist, though scattered units attack and are summarily destroyed. Federation ships at Rigel are seized, but there are fewer than expected. The Rigellians were not caught unprepared.[5]
- RSD 1/9301.25 (25 January): The U.S.S. Rutherford detects Klingon Group "R" in the unclaimed space between the Federation and Klingon Empire.[4]
- RSD 1/9301 through 1/9303 (January through March 2193): Operation Dwarfstar, a Star Fleet Intelligence Klingon Sector Intelligence operation, monitors Klingon fleets maneuvering within the unclaimed space between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. Agents succeed in keeping Klingon naval groups under constant surveillance, except for the two Klingon task forces en route to Axanar.[6]
February
