The third planet of eight orbiting a moderate yellow star[1] in Quadrant III of Federation space,[2] Makus III was a frontier world colonized during the 22nd century. In addition to a small Star Fleet supply base, the planet supported a thriving agricultural colony with a population of 71 thousand, which exported native foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals.[1] On Stardate 2825, the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 was scheduled to make a rendezvous at Makus III to transfer emergency medical supplies to relieve a plague at the New Paris colony.[3] By 2223, the population had exploded to 10.01 billion, mostly Vulcans.[2]
