A biopsy was a medical test to determine the presence of a disease in a sample of tissue taken from a patient. When polywater intoxication began to spread through the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 on Stardate 1704.2, Dr. McCoy ordered a biopsy on tissue samples taken from one of the first people infected, Lieutenant Sulu.[1]
