The Federation Starship Titan was a Shangri-la class vessel, launched in 2290 under the command of Captain Saavik. The Titan was known for its multiple encounters with the Klingon Empire, including the Exo-Port Takeover and the Horizon colony rescue. The Titan briefly became Starfleet's flagship after the decommissioning of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A, at the recommendation of Captain Hikaru Sulu of the U.S.S. Excelsior NCC-2000. The Titan was instrumental in maintaining frontier stability before the signing of the Khitomer Accords and the launch of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-B.[1]
Golden models of the Titan were on display in the conference rooms aboard the later Luna class U.S.S. Titan NCC-80102[2] and the Constitution III class U.S.S. Titan NCC-80102-A.[3]
