Reference Stardate 1/0601 through 1/0612

January

June

  • RSD 1/0606.16 (16 June): Star Fleet's 150th Combat Squadron, under the command of Admiral Rex Gunther, meets a solitary Romulan U-13 class cruiser near Eta Leonis VI. Instead of attacking, Admiral Gunther follows Thorpe's orders. He opens hailing frequencies, and warns the invading ship of his orders. Gunther gives the Romulan government six months in which to provide some kind of response; otherwise, it means war. Though the Romulan ship does not communicate, it is permitted to depart with the warning. This marks the only occasion where Federation and Romulan warships meet without bloodshed on either side.[1]

October

  • RSD 1/0610.14 (14 October): Since Admiral Gunther issued his warning, at least one warship has remained in the vicinity of Eta Leonis VI, awaiting a Romulan response. The U.S.S. Patton, a brand-new Marshall class destroyer commanded by Captain Joseph Spadora, is the ship on picket duty when three U-15 class cruisers close. While decelerating, the Romulan ships open fire. Captain Spadora is able to make a single transmission before a Romulan cruiser launches a "star-bomb" guided missile. The torpedo hits the Patton, completely destroying it. Spadora's message is received by other vessels in the area and relayed throughout the Federation. The Romulans' intentions are clear, and war is declared. In this unprecedented action, the Federation moves against an enemy whose planetary holdings and bases, political structure, aims and philosophies, and even appearance are completely unknown. Intercepted and translated subspace radio communications are analyzed to help the Federation understand their foe.[2][3][4][1]
  • RSD 1/0610 through 1/0909 (October 2106 through September 2109): The Romulan War calls attention to the strategic importance of the Triangle. After the war ends, however, interest fades due to pressing issues elsewhere.[5] Although no Orion forces are involved in the war, a great deal of war materiel is freighted through Orion worlds, and many Federation crews on leave learn the pleasures of Orion leisure.[6]
