Constellation class[1]

The lead vessel of the Constellation class,[2] the Federation Starship Constellation entered service circa 2275.[3][Notes 1][Notes 2] In 2293, the Constellation ran certification tests.[4]

In 2371, the Constellation was sent to transport a Jem'Hadar child abandoned on Deep Space 9 to Starbase 201.[5] After the U.S.S. Honshu NCC-60205 was destroyed in 2374, Starfleet assigned the Constellation and the U.S.S. Defiant NX-74205 to search for survivors in adjacent star systems.[6]

Notes

  1. The "Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual" listed the Constellation with a commissioning date of Registry Stardate 2/6002 (February 2318), with the registry number NCC-2500, and also stated that it was scrapped on Reference Stardate 3/0101 (January 2359). Other sources, however, contradicted this information: the novel "Honor Blade" showed the Constellation as a newly-commisioned ship a few years after the events of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, while the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes "The Abandoned" and "Waltz" referred to and showed a Constellation class ship by that name. The possibilities are that there were either three separate Constellation class ships bearing the same name, or—more likely—that there was, in fact, only one ship. The contradictory information was been disregarded, and the ships' information has all been compiled together.
  2. FASA game materials referred to events by a FASA-specific dating standard called the "Reference Stardate." All dates taken from FASA sources in this article have been adapted from that notation into standard calendar dates, which are then adjusted for errors in the baseline dates used as reference by the FASA authors. Working with a known, dated event (e.g., the launch of the Constitution class starships), the other dates in the timeline can be adjusted accordingly. FASA sources give the launch of the Constitution class as Reference Stardate 1/8801.04, which translates to the standard caldendar date of 04 January 2188. This has been established on screen, however, as occurring in 2245. As the exact month and date remain unstated in other sources, those remain the same, but the year has been adjusted to 2245, giving a modified date of 04 January 2245. This can then also be converted into the pre-TOS stardate system established in Star Trek (2009), giving us a stardate of 2245.004.
