Constitution class refit[1]

The Constitution class Starship Intrepid,[Notes 1] like her predecessor, the U.S.S. Intrepid NCC-1631, was crewed entirely by Vulcans.[2] Authorized by the Starfleet Appropriation of Stardate 4444,[3] the Intrepid was commissioned on Reference Stardate 2/1706[4] (June 2274).[Notes 2]

The vessel was captured soon after its maiden voyage by Romulan forces seeking to obtain Vulcan brain cells for genetic experimentation, in an attempt to artificially induce the mental powers of their Vulcan cousins. The ship and crew were rescued by the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 with the aid of the Romulan warbird Bloodwing.[2] Several months later, on Reference Stardate 2/1711.15 (15 November 2274), the Intrepid, assigned a patrol route near the Triangle border between the Federation, Romulan Empire, and Klingon Empire, the Intrepid was near Ayirn when that planet was raided by the Klingon Defense Force battlegroup known as The White Flame, but was too far to respond before the attack was over.[5]

The Intrepid was refit to Mark III specifications on Reference Stardate 2/2812 (December 2285); on Reference Stardate 2/4812 (December 2305), the Intrepid was scrapped, nine months prior to the launch of the Excelsior class U.S.S. Intrepid NCC-2020.[6]

Note

  1. The registry listed in the "Star Fleet Technical Manual," NCC-1730, and the registry listed in "Federation Ship Recognition Manual," NCC-1707, both conflict with that given in "My Enemy, My Ally," and must be disregarded.
  2. FASA game materials referred to events by a FASA-specific dating standard called the "Reference Stardate." All dates taken from FASA sources in this article have been adapted from that notation into standard calendar dates, which are then adjusted for errors in the baseline dates used as reference by the FASA authors. Working with a known, dated event (e.g., the launch of the Constitution class starships), the other dates in the timeline can be adjusted accordingly. FASA sources give the launch of the Constitution class as Reference Stardate 1/8801.04, which translates to the standard caldendar date of 04 January 2188. This has been established on screen, however, as occurring in 2245. As the exact month and date remain unstated in other sources, those remain the same, but the year has been adjusted to 2245, giving a modified date of 04 January 2245. This can then also be converted into the pre-TOS stardate system established in Star Trek (2009), giving us a stardate of 2245.004.
