Prime Timeline
(The root of all realities)

Decontamination was a process to remove hazardous contaminants from personnel returning to a ship from an unfamiliar or hostile environment. Geological Technician Fisher was instructed to report for decontamination after being exposed to an unknown magnetic ore on Alfa 177. Decontamination procedures were not always successful, however. Before decontamination could occur, the ore on Fisher's uniform damaged the transporter, making it impossible to retrieve the landing party when temperatures on the planet plummeted at night.[1] An unknown contaminant likewise infected the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 at Psi 2000, as its chemical composition so closely resembled water that it went unnoticed by the ship's decontamination systems.[2] The Enterprise was able to decontaminate the entire planet Ariannus in a matter of minutes from orbit on Stardate 5730.2.[3]
