In the Abrahamic faiths of Earth, Hell was a place of eternal suffering and punishment for those who committed sins in their mortal lives.[1] The Talosians used a depiction of Hell to punish Captain Christopher Pike in 2254, saying that it was "from a fable [he] ... heard in childhood."[2][3] When given the option of reorientation center or exile on Ceti Alpha V by Captain James T. Kirk on Stardate 3143.3, Khan Noonien Singh indicated that he preferred exile by quoting John Milton's Paradise Lost: "It is better to rule in Hell than to serve in Heaven."[4]
