(Chronicled in the Early Voyages comic books)

April commanded the U.S.S. Tiberius for three five-year missions.[1] In 2245, April assumed command as the first captain of the Constitution class U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701. April's wife, Sarah, served aboard the Enterprise as chief medical officer. When he accepted a promotion[2] to admiral, he was succeeded by his first officer[1] Christopher Pike.[3]

April was so impressed by Academy Cadet J. Mia Colt that, upon her graduation, he offered her a position aboard his old command, the Tiberius.[4] When Captain Pike's yeoman, Dermot Cusack,[1] was killed on Rigel VII[3] on Stardate 2385.7,[5] April personally ordered the transfer of Colt to the Enterprise as Cusack's replacement.[4]

As an ensign, Robert April served aboard the Einstein class U.S.S. Gates in 2217. April noted in his personal log at the time that he had grown frustrated with the inability of the class to conduct some repairs, which forced the ship to return to Starbase 9 after observing a supernova.[6]

For three years, April served as first officer aboard the Baton Rouge class U.S.S. Los Angeles, after which he requested a transfer to the Starfleet Logistics Command to pursue his dream of designing a new starship class with more robust, self-sufficient capabilities.[6]

In 2245, April assumed command as the first captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701[2] and commanded the ship until 2250.[6]

When he was offered a promotion to commodore,[2] which would keep him on Earth, he accepted, with the expressed desire to start a family.[6] Upon his promotion was succeeded by his first officer[6] Christopher Pike.[3][6]
