Prime Timeline
(The root of all realities)

An engagement was an agreement to be married. Lieutenants Robert Tomlinson and Angela Martine were engaged to be married in 2266, but their wedding was interrupted on Stardate 1709.2 when a Romulan Bird of Prey (2260s) destroyed several Earth Outposts along the Neutral Zone, and Tomlinson was killed in the ensuing ship-to-ship battle.[1] Nurse Christine Chapel was engaged to Dr. Roger Korby, but he disappeared in 2261, and although he transferred his mind into an android body, he died shortly after they were reunited five years later, on Stardate 2712.4.[2] Spock was ritually bonded to T'Pring when they were children; it was considered more than a betrothal, and less than a marriage in Vulcan culture.[3] They were formally engaged in 2259.[4]
