Blood was a plasma-based substance that carried oxygen from the lungs throughout the body. "Blood" could also refer to one's ancestry. When Spock made a comment about one of his "ancestors" marrying a Human woman on Stardate 1312.4, Kirk joked that it was "terrible, having bad blood like that."[1] The ship's computer noted that the male members of the crew had increased respiration, perspiration, heartbeat, and blood pressure in the presence of the wiving settlers brought aboard the Enterprise on Stardate 1329.1.[2]
