Food slots were able to provide a wide variety of foods on demand. There were several located along the wall of the rec room facility aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701,[1] as well as in the transporter room.[2] The slots were controlled by inserting a microtape with the desired food pattern into the slot. A tone would indicate that the food was ready, and the door would open to allow access to remove the food.[1]
