It was seized by the Tholians, who began to study its future technology, when Commander Jonathan Archer of the I.S.S. Enterprise NX-01 learned of its existence. (ENT 94) Following the destruction of the Enterprise in combat with the Tholians, the Defiant comes under the control of Archer, then Sato, who uses the ship's advanced weaponry to put down a rebellion and declare herself empress of the Terran Empire.
