U.S.S. Hood NCC-1703
The Constitution class[2] Starship Hood[Notes 1] was commissioned on Reference Stardate 1/9307 (July 2250),[Notes 2] and on Reference Stardate 2/0402 (February 2263) was refit to Mark III specifications.[3] In 2267, the Hood participated in the disastrous tests of the M-5 multitronic computer.[2] On Stardate 7636.2[4] (Reference Stardate 2/1101,[5] January 2269) the Hood, commanded by Captain Hugo Revere, was ordered to investigate an Interphase rift between two rotating neutron stars near Tholian space, to determine its potential use as a weapon. By Stardate 7662.4[4] (Reference Stardate 2/1104,[5] April), the Hood had been pulled into interphase. The data the ship had collected was recovered by the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, but the ship and crew were lost.[4]
The Hood was recovered, however, on Reference Stardate 2/1201 (January 2270) by the U.S.S. Cre'cy NCC-4312. Towed to the nearest Federation outpost, plans were made to scrap the Hood.[5] Instead, the ship was repaired and returned to service, and some time afterward, the Hood was escorting a group of merchantmen to Starbase 12 when the convoy was attacked by a Klingon K't'inga class cruiser.[6] Lori Desmonal served her second cadet cruise aboard the Hood around Reference Stardate 2/14 (2272).[7] The Hood was upgraded to the Constitution class refit specifications, and on Reference Stardate 2/1704 (April 2275), the Hood was placed in an inactive reserve fleet.[Notes 3][3] The Hood was later recalled to active service, and was destroyed on Reference Stardate 2/3503 (March 2293).[8]
Notes
- ↑ The registry given in "The Federation Ship Recognition Manual," NCC-1703, conflicts with that given in "The Star Fleet Technical Manual," NCC-1707, which also conflicted with the U.S.S. Ranger NCC-1707; the "Technical Manual" registry was disregarded in favor of the "Recognition Manual" registry.
- ↑ FASA game materials referred to events by a FASA-specific dating standard called the "Reference Stardate." All dates taken from FASA sources in this article have been adapted from that notation into standard calendar dates, which are then adjusted for errors in the baseline dates used as reference by the FASA authors. Working with a known, dated event (e.g., the launch of the Constitution class starships), the other dates in the timeline can be adjusted accordingly. FASA sources give the launch of the Constitution class as Reference Stardate 1/8801.04, which translates to the standard caldendar date of 04 January 2188. This has been established on screen, however, as occurring in 2245. As the exact month and date remain unstated in other sources, those remain the same, but the year has been adjusted to 2245, giving a modified date of 04 January 2245. This can then also be converted into the pre-TOS stardate system established in Star Trek (2009), giving us a stardate of 2245.004.
- ↑ Conflicting information was given in the FASA game materials regarding the ultimate fate of the Hood. The Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home Sourcebook Update established that the Cre'cy recovered the Hood after its reappearance from Interphase, but noted that the ship was scrapped; the Constitution class listings in the Federation Ship Recognition Manual reflected this. However, "The Big Bad Wolf," an adventure in the Starship Tactical Combat Simulator, contradicted this with a pre-refit Hood engaging a K't'inga class ship. The Federation Ship Recognition Manual's entry for the Enterprise class (which FASA used to refer to the Constitution class refit) showed the Hood (with matching hull registry) was placed on inactive reserve in 2275. This conflict has been resolved as seen in the text above.
