The Federation Starship Constitution, the prototype of the Constitution class,[2] was commissioned on 4 January[3] 2245.[4] The Constitution boasted several new technologies, most notably Duotronic computers;[5] June 2260 saw a refit to Mark III specifications.[6]
The Constitution was commanded by Fleet Captain Garth of Izar from her launch in 2245 until 2255, and the ship saw combat during the Axanar Rebellion,[7] which precipiated the Four Years War.[8] The Constitution was later commanded by Commodore Darion Page from 2256 until she was lost in action in 2269.[7] In 2267, the Constitution was at Starbase 11 for repairs.[9] Named for the famous United States Navy vessel, U.S.S.
