Construction on the Federation Starship Saratoga, a Bonhomme Richard class cruiser (a variant of the Constitution class), was authorized by the Star Fleet Appropriation of Stardate 3220[1] and commissioned circa 2194. Following the end of the war in 2198, nearly all surviving Bonhomme Richard class vessels, including the Saratoga, were decommissioned and destroyed in weapons testing as part of Star Fleet's postwar demilitarization.[2]
