Atlantis NX-05 (Columbia)
Registry | NX-05 |
Class | NX class |
Commissioned | February 2156 |
Status | Destroyed (June 20, 2156) |
The NX class Starship Atlantis was under construction at the Proxima Shipyard in November 2155. Atlantis was launched in February 2156, shortly after the outbreak of the Romulan War. The ship's first assignment was to help test the warp-detection grids provided to Coalition worlds by the Vulcans.[1]
Soon thereafter, Atlantis accompanied the Enterprise NX-01, newly refitted to the Columbia class specifications, in a days-long standoff with a squadron of four Romulan Birds of Prey. The Romulans opened fire first, striking Atlantis, but the Earth forces returned fire, damaging one Bird of Prey and dispersing the others.[2][3] A Romulan attack against the Sol system was deemed imminent in June 2156, but The NX class vessels Enterprise, Constellation, and Atlantis were not ordered back to the system as other ships were.[4]
On June 20, 2156, Atlantis was destroyed over Tau Ceti IV during a Romulan invasion of that world, but the crew managed to reach the escape pods before the ship's destruction.[5]

On 10 January 2160, the Atlantis, Enterprise, and Defiant set course for Cheron, with the mission to destroy the Romulan shipyards located there. This Battle of Cheron was actually a feint, distracting the bulk of the Romulan fleet away from Romulus, while it was attacked by a force led by the Lexington. After the Defiant was destroyed, Atlantis and Enterprise would surely have been destroyed as well, had the Romulan forces not retreated to defend their homeworld.[4]
