U.S.S. Constitution NCC-1700
The Federation Starship Constitution,[Notes 1] the prototype of the Constitution class,[2] was commissioned on Stardate 2245.004 (Reference Stardate 1/8801.04, 4 January[3] 2245[4]).[Notes 2] Construction began at the San Francisco Fleet Yards on Reference Stardate 1/8209 (September 2239),[5] and the Constitution boasted several new technologies, most notably Duotronic computers;[6] Reference Stardate 2/0206 (June 2260) saw a refit to Mark III specifications.[7]
The Constitution saw combat during the Four Years War,[5] and the ship was commanded by Fleet Captain Kelvar Garth (aka Garth of Izar) from 2251 until 2255.[8][Notes 3] The Constitution was later commanded by Commodore Darion Page from 2256 until the end of her career.[8][Notes 4] In 2267, the Constitution was at Starbase 11 for repairs.[9] The Constitution was lost in action in 2269,[8] but subsequently recovered and placed in an inactive reserve fleet on Stardate 2/1205 (May 2270).[7]
Notes
- ↑ Named for the famous United States Navy vessel, U.S.S. Constitution.
- ↑ FASA game materials referred to events by a FASA-specific dating standard called the "Reference Stardate." All dates taken from FASA sources in this article have been adapted from that notation into standard calendar dates, which are then adjusted for errors in the baseline dates used as reference by the FASA authors. Working with a known, dated event (e.g., the launch of the Constitution class starships), the other dates in the timeline can be adjusted accordingly. FASA sources give the launch of the Constitution class as Reference Stardate 1/8801.04, which translates to the standard caldendar date of 04 January 2188. This has been established on screen, however, as occurring in 2245. As the exact month and date remain unstated in other sources, those remain the same, but the year has been adjusted to 2245, giving a modified date of 04 January 2245. This can then also be converted into the pre-TOS stardate system established in Star Trek (2009), giving us a stardate of 2245.004.
- ↑ The FASA Star Trek: The Roleplaying Game supplement "The Four Years War" (1986) established that Captain Garth commanded the Marklin class destroyer U.S.S. Xenophon during the Battle of Axanar in 2251. The Last Unicorn Games Star Trek Roleplaying Game "Core Game Book" (1999) and the Decipher Star Trek Role Playing Game supplement "Starships" (2003) both stated that Garth commanded the Constitution from 2245 until 2255. This conflict was reconciled by keeping Garth in command of the Xenophon until after the Battle of Axanar, at which point he is transferred to command the Constitution.
- ↑ The FASA supplement Federation Ship Recognition Manual stated that the Constitution was placed on Inactive Reserve on Reference Stardate 2/1205 (May 2270), whereas Decipher's "Starships" stated that the Constitution was lost in 2269. It seems simple enough to allow that the ship went missing, and was retired upon its return a year later.
