* RSD 0/7203: Deciding that discretion is the better part of valor, Botchok Planetary Congress President Balon the Devious welcomes the Klingon fleet approaching the Rigel system. What the Orions have not gained by arms, they will soon gain by pandering to the Klingons' weakness for luxuries. The Empire assigns a figurehead governor to the Orion colonies after a minor show of force, but he never actually attempts to exercise control, and his position is mostly that of a trade liaison. The average Orion is totally unaware that the colonies are "officially" a Klingon protectorate. They do recognize a rich new market when they see one and so start trading with the Klingons. * RSD 0/7610 (October): The Klingon Emperor, convinced by President Balon's arguments, withdraws his fleet and figurehead governor from Botchok, beginning a period of benign neglect. With conflict heating up again between the Romulans and the Klingons along their common border (though no war is ever officially declared), the Empire has no time for an area like Orion space, which it perceives as only marginally useful.  Trading vessels from the Klingon Empire become rare among the Orion colonies, as most trade of war materials is now conducted using Orion vessels. This is allegedly done to free Klingon vessels for war efforts, but the Orions actually suggested the policy to rid their space of the Klingon presence so that they might build up their own military more effectively without tipping off the Empire to their actual strength.

FASA Timeline
(FASA Roleplaying Game)

Reference Stardate 0/7001 through 0/7912

2070

 • RSD 0/70: Over a three-year period, from 2067 through 2070, ten Space Arks leave Earth. All are manned by people dissatisfied with sociopolitical and ecological conditions within the Sol system. Eventually, it is discovered that all but one of these ships, Terra 10, the last to launch, were lost.[1][2][3]

2071

April

 • RSD 0/7104 through 0/7301 (April 2071 through January 2073): An undeclared economic alliance exists between Vulcan, Earth, and Alpha Centauri,[3] and the first commercial interstellar trade missions begin.[4] As the undeclared alliance continues to grow, commercial space lanes with convenient transfer points are set up to encourage trade.[2]

November

 • RSD 0/7111: The MD-1000 class multi-functional space-rated construction dock becomes operational, serving as a sub-light maneuverable repair facility. The dock has a complement of 15 people; 75 will be built, and the class will remain in service until 2098.[2][3]

2072

February

 • RSD 0/7202.10 (10 February): According to Orion records, the Orion colonial governments make first contact with the Klingon Empire: an Orion pirate duels with a Klingon light cruiser and loses. The Orions cleverly conceal the real value of their location in space and their mineral wealth, avoiding Klingon domination by convincing the Empire that they have more to offer as independent allies.[5][6]

March

 • RSD 0/7203: Deciding that discretion is the better part of valor, Botchok Planetary Congress President Balon the Devious welcomes the Klingon fleet approaching the Rigel system. Meanwhile, the controlling Orion trade families are ever-watchful to ensure that the Empire does not become too interested in Rigel's wealth.[5][6]

June

 • RSD 0/7206: Earth publishes a detailed study regarding interstellar cooperation, which concludes with a call for an official alliance between Vulcan, Alpha Centauri, and Earth.[2][3]

2073

August

 • RSD 0/7308.20 (20 August): First contact is made with the Tellarites when a single Tellarite patrol ship enters the Sol system and claims it as "an addition to the Tellarite Territories." United Nations Space Force Admiral Abel Niwen, commanding the Solar Fleet forces from the Liberty class U.N.S.S. Bonhomme Richard, elects to diplomatically welcome the Tellarite vessel, while warning that any hostile action will be reciprocated. The Tellarite commander abruptly accepts what he sees as an offer of friendship and implied military alliance. Admiral Niwen will receive the Medal of Honor for his actions, and later retires to serve as Earth's first ambassador to Tellar.[2][7][3]

2074

April

 • RSD 0/7404.17 (17 April): The first test of warp radio between Pluto and Earth is a complete success, and its introduction allows communication between nearby star systems in weeks rather than years.[2][3]

2075

November

Seal of the Andorian Empire (SFTM)

 • RSD 0/7511.29 (29 November): First contact with the Andorians nearly ends in disaster when an Andorian starship fires on a Human exploratory vessel. Earth prepares for war, but cooler heads on Vulcan convince Earth's leaders to try and negotiate with the growing Andorian Empire.[4][3]

2076

August

 • RSD 0/7608: The first unmanned, computer guided, interplanetary cargo vessels enter service, and begin transporting raw materials and other freight. These vessels include refitted DY-500 class vessels, now renamed the Zeus class. They will remain in service until 2107.[2][3]

October

 • RSD 0/7610: The Klingon Emperor, convinced by President Balon's arguments, withdraws his fleet and figurehead governor from Botchok, beginning a period of benign neglect. This is allegedly done to free Klingon vessels for war efforts, but the Orions actually suggested the policy to rid their space of the Klingon presence so that they might build up their own military more effectively without tipping off the Empire to their actual strength.[5][6]

2077

March

 • RSD 0/7703: The First Alpha Centauri Conference preserves the peace, with Vulcan diplomats convincing Andor that it has nothing to gain and everything to lose by fighting Earth and her allies. Andor joins the alliance.[2][4]

2078

January

 • RSD 0/7801: The United Nations Space Force's Messier class warp cruiser enters service; the U.N.S.S. Pollux is one of the first ships of the class, of which 875 will be built. The class is the first to be equipped with the newly-developed particle beam cannon. This becomes the last entirely Earth-built major ship series. Carrying a crew of 93, the class remains in service until 2110. Refitted for military use, many Messier class ships, including the Pollux, will see considerable action during the Romulan War.[2][3]

2079

 • RSD 0/79: The WP174 Work Pod is commisioned, and remains in service until 2098.[2]

Garggash Dlumppheg (FASA 2203A: Original B&W file)

 • RSD 0/7907: An Orion colony ship encounters the Tellarite trader Garggash Dlumppheg, and the Orion commander transports the Tellarite to Botchok.[8] Through Dlumppheg, the Orions first discover the existence of a growing alliance to spinward.[6]
 • RSD 0/7907.27 (27 July): Through information supplied by the Tellarites, Humans visit the Rigel trading planet with the Merchant class U.N.S.S. Marco Polo, filled with a wide range of goods. This leads to the discovery that Human electronics and metallurgy are more advanced than many.[2][4][3]
