Prime Timeline
(The root of all realities)

An offshoot of the Vulcans, the Romulans were a martial people who rejected the philosophy of logic. They founded the Romulan Star Empire, eventually coming into conflict with Earth in the mid-22nd century. Highly secretive, the Romulans never met face-to-face with their Human adversaries or Earth's allies, and the treaty that ended the war and established the Neutral Zone between them was negotiated entirely over subspace radio. The Romulans withdrew behind their border, and were not seen again until Stardate 1709.2, when a lone Bird of Prey equipped with new cloaking and plasma torpedo technologies crossed the Neutral Zone and destroyed several Earth Outposts in a test of the United Federation of Planets' defenses. The ship was stopped by the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, and during the confrontation, the Romulans' true nature was discovered.[1]
