S.S. Atlas destroyed by Romulans (FASA 2203A, 2nd Ed.; Original B&W Image)

The S.S. Atlas was a cargo vessel operated by the United Earth Starfleet[Notes 1] in the 22nd century. On Reference Stardate 0/9211.03 (3 November 2135), while en route from Delta II to the Sector 5D Agricultural Colony, Atlas was set upon by a pair of unidentified vessels, which, unknown to the crew, were from the Romulan Star Empire. After pacing Atlas for eleven hours, the Romulans, which the Atlas crew now mistook for pirates, began an extended barrage of pinpoint strikes with "an incredibly powerful beam weapon." After several hours, and moments before the final strike by the Romulan vessels, Captain Horowitz ejected the ship's recorder-marker buoy, which was retrieved by a scout ship three months later.[1]

Notes

  1. The chronology used by Star Trek: The Roleplaying Game, the Spaceflight Chronology, assumed that the United Federation of Planets had already been formed at the time of the Romulan War. This entry has been adjusted to reflect later chronology information to the contrary. Accordingly, the ship's identification has been changed from U.S.S. Atlas to S.S. Atlas; it has also been changed from the Federation Starfleet to the Earth Starfleet. Previous attempts at Vulcans serving aboard Earth Starfleet vessels were mentioned in "Broken Bow", so the reference to a Vulcan science officer, Spirk, was retained.

FASA Timeline

On Reference Stardate 0/9211.03 (3 November 2092), while en route from Delta II to the Sector 5D Agricultural Colony, Atlas was set upon by a pair of unidentified vessels, which, unknown to the crew, were from the Romulan Star Empire. After pacing Atlas for eleven hours, the Romulans, which the Atlas crew had mistaken for pirates, began an extended barrage of pinpoint strikes with "an incredibly powerful beam weapon." After several hours, and moments before the final strike by the Romulan vessels, Captain Genevieve Horowitz ejected the ship's recorder-marker buoy, which was retrieved by a scout ship three months later.[1]
