Artificial gravity was produced by grav plating. When the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 lost power to its engines during First Contact with the Talosians in 2254, Spock noted that were it not for backup battery power, they would have lost gravity and life support.[1] After an encounter with the Galactic Barrier on Stardate 1312.4, gravity aboard the Enterprise was reduced to 0.8g.[2]
