Myriad Universes: tricorder
A tricorder was a handheld scanning device used to obtain detailed sensor information, as well as to retrieve information from computer databases.[1] A tricorder was able to scan for lifeforms in a radius of 100 miles, even through the solid rock of Janus VI's mines.[2] Tricorders were sometimes vulnerable to exploding when subjected to certain types of feedback, such as when the Gorn caused an overload by directing a tricorder's own impulses back at it.[3] Specialized versions of the tricorder were also produced, such as the medical tricorder[4] and the psychotricorder.[5]
