Enterprise NCC-1701 survived only because its departure from Earth was delayed, allowing Cadet James T. Kirk to warn Captain Christopher Pike of the danger that the ship faced.[1] Unfortunately, none were able to stand up to the power of the Narada's red matter weaponry, and Vulcan was destroyed by an artificial quantum singularity, killing billions of Vulcans in a matter of minutes.[1]
