Chandley class[1]

The Federation Starship Fife, a Chandley class frigate, was named for Commodore Charles Vincent Fife, commander of a Western Alliance naval squadron during the Persian Gulf campaigns of the Eugenics Wars on Earth. The Fife's hull was laid down at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards in orbit of Mars on Reference Stardate 2/1810 (October 2276),[Notes 1] and was commissioned on Reference Stardate 2/1902 (February 2277). On Reference Stardate 2/2306.03 (3 June 2281), the Fife, commanded by Captain Jason Culver, encountered a Doomsday Machine near the planet Ectair, and was only able to defeat it with the aid of the Dwarfstar class trader Pride O'Rigel, a converted Romulan Gallant Wing class warship, the Deletham Mosarum (Wind Defender), and the Cosmos Royale, known as "the floating crap game.".[2]

Chandley class[3]

The Fife's senior staff at the time of the incident included Captain Culver, commanding officer; Commander Lydia C. Marston, first officer; Lieutenant Commander Sen-Wu Chiang, science officer; Lieutenant Commander Helmut Albrecht, chief engineer; Lieutenant Commander Jehan Qamer, chief medical officer; Lieutenant Eric J. Lonnquist, helmsman; Lieutenant Banda, navigator; Lieutenant Storan, communications and damage control; and Lieutenant Gormoj Vrune, security. Other officers included Lieutenant Marion White, assistant engineer; Lieutenant Thomas Renner, assistant science officer; Lieutenant Jennifer Reed and Lieutenant, j.g. S'vrak Volara, assistant medical officers; Ensign Kevin Donnelly, assistant navigator; Ensign Stefan Voronov, assistant communications officer; Chief Petty Officer Stewart Austin, transporter chief; as well as Lieutenant, j.g. William Kuanda and Ensigns Veronica St. Cyr, U'Vren, and Zaitids, security officers. The Marine contingent commandant was Lieutenant Colonel[Notes 2] Robert L. Gray, and its enlisted members were overseen by Sergeant Major Mbandwe. Private Iesu Koshinara was a junior Marine assigned to the Fife's detachment.[2]

Notes

  1. FASA game materials referred to events by a FASA-specific dating standard called the "Reference Stardate." All dates taken from FASA sources in this article have been adapted from that notation into standard calendar dates, which are then adjusted for errors in the baseline dates used as reference by the FASA authors. Working with a known, dated event (e.g., the launch of the Constitution class starships), the other dates in the timeline can be adjusted accordingly. FASA sources give the launch of the Constitution class as Reference Stardate 1/8801.04, which translates to the standard caldendar date of 04 January 2188. This has been established on screen, however, as occurring in 2245. As the exact month and date remain unstated in other sources, those remain the same, but the year has been adjusted to 2245, giving a modified date of 04 January 2245. This can then also be converted into the pre-TOS stardate system established in Star Trek (2009), giving us a stardate of 2245.004.
  2. Gray was listed as Commander, a Starfleet naval rank, despite his position as commandant of the Marine contingent. More appropriately, and in line with other Marine officers depicted on Star Trek, such as Colonel West and Major Hayes, his rank has been adjusted to its Marine equivalent, Lieutenant Colonel.
