Vulcan destroyed by red matter (Star Trek)

On Stardate 2258.42, Vulcan was attacked by the Narada, a Romulan ship from the future. Six Starfleet ships were destroyed by the Narada:[1] the U.S.S. Truman NCC-0854,[1] the U.S.S. Farragut NCC-1647,[1] the U.S.S. Mayflower NCC-1621,[1] the U.S.S. Excelsior NCC-1729,[2] the U.S.S. Armstrong NCC-1769,[2] and the U.S.S. Defiant NCC-1764.[2] The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 survived only because its departure from Earth was delayed, allowing Cadet James T. Kirk to warn Captain Christopher Pike of the danger that the ship faced.[1] Unfortunately, none were able to stand up to the power of the Narada's red matter weaponry, and Vulcan was destroyed by an artificial quantum singularity, killing billions of Vulcans in a matter of minutes.[1]
