James Tiberius Kirk was the third commanding officer of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701.[1][2] On Stardate 1278.4,[3] Kirk assumed command of the Enterprise from Captain Christopher Pike,[4] and commanded the vessel on what would become an historic Five Year Mission, which lasted from 2265 through 2270.[5]
