Brent was assigned to the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 as early as 2266. When the ship went to Red Alert during first contact with the First Federation, Lieutenant Brent reported to the bridge, where he assisted Ensign Leslie at the engineering station.[1] When the ship was in orbit of M-113, Brent accompanied Bobby onto a turbolift, and they encountered Lieutenant Uhura, who asked Bobby to take a look at the door to her quarters, which was malfunctioning.[2] During a mission to Psi 2000 on Stardate 1704.2, Lieutenant Brent took over the navigator's station when Lieutenant Kevin Riley was infected with an unknown disease.[3] Brent was also on bridge duty on Stardate 3141.9, when the Enterprise discovered the S.S. Botany Bay. Brent was rendered unconscious when Khan Noonien Singh seized control of the Enterprise and shut off the life support systems to the bridge.[4] Brent was on duty in one of the ship's fourteen science labs when Captain Kirk, Commander Spock, and Dr. McCoy were studying a captured neural parasite on Stardate 3287.2.[5]
