During the General War, the different powers continued to improve their designs. Frigates, which were too small to survive in fleet battles, gave way to war destroyers. Cruisers were replaced by command cruisers, then heavy command cruisers, and finally heavy battlecruisers. The Klingon C-7 class heavy battlecruiser, introduced in 2297, was a superb example of the heavy battlecruiser type, easily the equial to the Federation's Kirov class, and the improved firing arcs made up for a degraded turn rate. Built upon a D-7 class spaceframe, the C-7 had a crew complement of 550, a capacity of twelve shuttlecraft, four science labs, six transporters, four tractor beam emitters, and was armed with four Type-B missile launchers, four Type-4 disruptors, ten banks of Type-1 phasers, and three banks of Type-3 phasers.[1]

Romulan

The Romulan Star Empire acquired several C-7 class heavy battlecruisers from the Klingon Empire beginning in 2302. The ship's armaments were determined to be the maximum amount of weaponry that could be placed on the spaceframe, and the cost of the ship was nearly the same as that of the C-9 class, but without the improved weaponry or shielding of the C-9. The C-7R (KCR) heavy battlecruiser featured a crew complement of 550, a capacity of ten shuttlecraft, and was equipped with four science labs, six transporters, four tractor beam emitters, and two mech tractors. The class was armed with four torpedo tubes, with two dedicated to Type-S and two to Type-F plasma torpedoes, as well as fourteen banks of Type-1 phasers and four banks of Type-3 phasers.[1]
