Like the rest of the class, the Lafayette served in combat during the Four Years War.[2] The Lafayette was destroyed during the war,[3] and succeeded by the Larson class destroyer U.S.S. Lafayette NCC-4397 on Reference Stardate 1/9704 (April 2197).[4]

  3. Although the Lafayette's fate was not explicitly stated in The Four Years War, the existence of a second ship of that name prior to the end of the Four Years War and the decommissioning and destruction of the entire Bonhomme Richard class strongly implies that the cruiser was destroyed prior to the war's end.
