First Contact is "a delicate, high-stakes operation of diplomacy"[1] in which two or more intelligent species meet for the first time.[2]

The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 made numerous first contacts, including with the Talosians in 2254,[3] and the First Federation on Stardate 1512.2.[4]
