  • The Nomad space probe (probe 2002-45b) is launched in the early 2000s. The probe was designed by Jackson Roykirk to search for extraterrestrial life forms. It is eventually lost in space and presumed destroyed.[1][2]

  • Cryogenics become unnecessary in Human space travel, as new propulsion methods significantly reduce the time required for interplanetary trips.[4]

  • The Eugenics Wars begin at about this time on Earth[6] when a group of Augments led by Khan Noonian Singh seize power simultaneously in more than forty nations. Khan himself claims dominion over more than a quarter of the planet.[4] Though the conflict originally began in 1992, intervention by various factions in the Temporal Wars delayed the events for several decades.[10]

  • The "great awakening" leads the Argelians to turn to a hedonistic life style at about this time.[13]

  • The S.S. Valiant encounters a magnetic storm that pushes it beyond the edge of the galaxy. Upon re-entering through the Galactic Barrier, several crew members begin exhibiting extraordinary psychic powers. The captain is forced to order the destruction of his ship.[15]
