- The second pilot episode, "Where No Man Has Gone Before," is completed and delivered to executives at NBC's New York offices.[1]

- Gene Roddenberry steps down as producer to become executive producer. Gene L. Coon becomes series producer for the remainder of the first season.[1]

- 8 September: TOS 05: "The Man Trap," the fifth episode produced, but the first to finish postproduction, becomes the first episode of Star Trek to air on television.[1]
