Stardate 6334.1: A dreaded disease, choriocytosis, strikes the Enterprise. All except Spock are cured, and the illness is fatal to Vulcans.
On the way to a Federation ceremony, an epidemic of choriocytosis strikes the Enterprise. To others it is not a serious danger, but in Vulcans it causes suffocation after three days, and Spock has the disease. To slow its progress, Spock is given a dose of synthetic Strobolin — the only antidote — while Captain Kirk arranges to pick up a supply of the drug from the S.S. Huron. On the way to the Enterprise, however, the Huron is attacked by Orion pirates who steal the cargo. Kirk attempts to bargain with the Orions, and their attempt to self-destruct is stopped by Scotty. The Orions are captured, and Spock's life is saved.
