The Federation Starship Essex was a Bonhomme Richard class cruiser (a variant of the Constitution class) authorized for production by the Star Fleet Appropriation of Stardate 3220.[1] Commissioned circa 2194, the Essex and her Bonhomme Richard class sister ships would see extensive combat during the Four Years War. Following the war, the ships of the class that survived were decommissioned and destroyed in weapons testing as part of Star Fleet's postwar demilitarization.[2]
