- RSD 0/5807: After several years of design, construction, and testing, the Cochrane class, named for the inventor of the warp drive engine, Zefram Cochrane, inaugurates a new era in space exploration as Earth's first class of warp-capable spacecraft. A joint venture between Earth and Alpha Centauri, the Bonaventure is armed with monochromatic high-intensity lasers, powered by the ship's fusion sub-light engines. The U.N.S.S. Bonaventure is among the first ships of the class.[1][2]

- 30-31 December: The S.S. Valiant encounters a magnetic storm that pushes it beyond the edge of the galaxy. Upon re-entering through the Galactic Barrier, several crew members begin exhibiting extraordinary psychic powers. The captain is forced to order the destruction of his ship,[5] but a number of crewmen survive and establish a colony on a nearby world.[6]
