U.S.S. Constellation
Registry NCC-1974 (formerly NX-1974)
Class Constellation
Commissioned Reference Stardate 2/6002 (February 2275)

The lead vessel of the Constellation class,[1] the Federation Starship Constellation entered service on Reference Stardate 2/6002 (February 2275).[2][3][4] In 2293, the Constellation ran certification tests.[5]

In 2371, the Constellation was sent to transport a Jem'Hadar child abandoned on Deep Space 9 to Starbase 201.[6] After the U.S.S. Honshu NCC-60205 was destroyed in 2374, Starfleet assigned the Constellation and the U.S.S. Defiant NX-74205 to search for survivors in adjacent star systems.[7]

  4. The "Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual" listed the Constellation with a commissioning date of Reference Stardate 2/6002 (February 2323) and the registry number NCC-2500, and also stated that it was scrapped on Reference Stardate 3/0101 (January 2359). Other sources, however, contradicted this information: the Last Unicorn Games supplement "The Price of Freedom" listed the Constellation's commissioning date as 2304, the novel "Honor Blade" showed the Constellation as a newly-commisioned ship a few years after the events of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, while the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes "The Abandoned" and "Waltz" referred to and showed a Constellation class ship by that name. The possibilities are that there were either three separate Constellation class ships bearing the same name, or—more likely—that there was, in fact, only one ship. The contradictory information was been disregarded, and the ships' information has all been compiled together.
