Stardate 1254.4: At the center of the galaxy, the Enterprise discovers a race of powerful aliens.
A whirlwind of matter and energy at the center of the galaxy propels the Enterprise into another dimension, where its technology does not function. The crew is rescued by a being who resembles the devil and calls himself Lucien. He claims that, in this dimension, magic functions just as surely as science does in the crew's native dimension. But the crew's use of mystical energy is detected on the planet Megas-Tu, and they are transported to the Megans' planet. Long ago, they visited Earth, where they were first regarded as sages, then persecuted as witches. Lucien became the basis for ancient visual representations of Satan. A magical battle between the two sides ends when the Megans realize that the Enterprise crew is fighting in defense of Lucien. Impressed, they aid the crew in returning to their home dimension.
