In the vicinity of planet Pollux IV, the Enterprise encounters a huge, green hand that materializes in space and holds the starship motionless. The "hand" is not flesh and blood, but a form of energy belonging to a humanoid figure who identifies himself as the god Apollo, last survivor of the band of space travelers who visited old Earth and dwelled on Mount Olympus. He declares the Enterprise crew to be his "children," who will now stay on Pollux IV and worship him.
