Stardate 5371.3: A mysterious cloud threatens to destroy an inhabited planet.

A huge cloud that eats planets is headed for Mantilles — home to 82 million people. The Enterprise is able to warn Mantilles of the approaching danger and is then pulled inside the cloud. Spock steers toward the creature's brain — and escapes — but the cloud's antimatter villi are draining the ship's energy. Mr. Scott brings one of the villi aboard and uses it to recharge the Enterprise's warp engines. Spock initiates a Vulcan mind meld with the entity, informing it that the planets it is ingesting also have life that it is killing. The cloud agrees to leave the galaxy.
