Construction on the Federation Starship Canopus, a Tikopai class vessel, was authorized by the Star Fleet Appropriation of Stardate 5930[1] and commissioned circa Reference Stardate 1/96 (2196),[2][3] succeeding the previous starship to bear the name.[4]
