U.S.S. Defiant NCC-1764 (FASA)
|Status||Destroyed (RSD 2/0911)|
(FASA Roleplaying Game)
The Federation Starship Defiant, a Constitution class cruiser, was commissioned on Reference Stardate 1/9311 (November 2193). On Reference Stardate 1/9407 (July 2194), the Defiant, with a squadron of Baton Rouge class cruisers, destroyed a Klingon task force that was raiding supply convoys, but during the Four Years War, the Defiant and her Constitution class sister ships were largely redeployed away from the fighting. Wendell Manyard served aboard the Defiant for two years, shortly after the ship was launched. On Reference Stardate 2/0303 (March 2203), the Defiant was refit to Mark III specifications.
While testing a classified phase inverter on Reference Stardate 2/1002 (February 2210), the Defiant entered a spatial interphase and became trapped. This interphase had an adverse effect on humanoid neurophysiology and caused mass insanity among the crew. The captain managed to get a distress call out to the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 before the crew succumbed to madness and started to kill each other. By the time the Enterprise arrived at the Defiant's location on Stardate 5693.2 (Reference Stardate 2/1003.01 (1 March 2210), three weeks had passed. The crew of the Defiant was dead, and the ship had been drawn deeper into the interphase rift. Interference from the Tholians prevented the Enterprise from retrieving the Defiant, and the ship was left behind. The Defiant was last seen shimmering, suspended between dimensions, until it faded into interspace. The Defiant was listed as destroyed.
The Defiant emerged into a universe where time moved far more slowly than in its native universe. While only hours passed for the Defiant, twenty years passed on the other side of the rift. The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A was ordered to embark on a dangerous mission to retrieve the Defiant and its classified cargo on Stardate 8544.9. Despite interference from a covert Romulan agent, the mission was a complete success, and Captains Kirk and Scott recommended that the Defiant be placed in the Fleet Museum.
