In 2268, the Federation Starship Exeter, a Constitution class cruiser, visited planet Omega IV, where a landing party led by Captain Ron Tracey unwittingly brought back a deadly virus from an ancient bacteriological war. The entire crew was infected and reduced to dehydrated crystals by the virus. Tracey found himself marooned on the surface, where he violated the Prime Directive by providing the primitive Kohm civilization with phasers to use against their rivals, the Yangs. Tracey was discovered by the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 and arrested.[1]
