The Federation Starship Republic, a Constitution class cruiser, was authorized for construction by the Starfleet Appropriation of Stardate 5930 as the U.S.S. Caspan.[1] The Republic was commissioned on Reference Stardate 2/1904 (January 2278), following the disappearance of the U.S.S. Republic NCC-1371 on Reference Stardate 2/0808 (August 2269).[2] Shari Shranim served aboard the Republic during her first year of service.[3] On Reference Stardate 2/2107.08 (8 July 2284),[4] the Republic, commanded by Fleet Captain Sufik, led the fleet for Operation Tactical Encounters XXVI, a major Starfleet exercise intended to field-test new tactical formations.[5] The Republic was refit to Mark III specifications on Reference Stardate 2/2511 (November 2288), and to Mark IV specifications on Reference Stardate 2/3710 (October 2300). On Reference Stardate 2/5512 (December 2318), the Republic was scrapped.[6]
